Description

Cast: Karel Hašler, Bronislava Livia, Vladimír Pospíšil-Born a další

Dr. František Uher (Karel Hašler), a respectable lawyer, finds out that his wife has been unfaithful to him with an insidious officer. Deeply wounded, he enters the ill-famed pub Battalion, where he eventually becomes the “advocate for the poor” and forever abandons the bourgeois world. How- ever, alcoholism gradually makes him lose his mind and leads him to despair. Battalion, one of the milestones of the Czech cinema of the 1920s, stands out for its socially sensitive grasp of reality, inventive combination of various plot lines and intriguing, avant-garde-tinged depiction of the main character’s inner visions. The film comes out with original music by Kryštof Mařatka.
